Queen of hip hop and soul, Ms Lauryn Hill will perform on Monday, May 15th at the OLM Souissi

Rabat, tuesday, February 28th, 2017 – Mawazine festival treats the Moroccan public to an exceptional show, starring the pioneer of American hip-hop: Ms Lauryn Hill.

As a lead singer, Lauryn Hill’s mythical voice has enchanted generations of fans. With The Fugees band, she was the Queen over the hip-hop scene of the 90s. The album, Blunted On Reality paved the way for the band’s career, selling over 4 million copies. In 1996, their album, The Score hit the shelves to remain until now the best-selling rap album in the United States, with 18 million copies, not to mention the legendary cover version of Killing Me Softly (1973) by Roberta Flack.

In 1993, though only aged 18, Lauryn Hill outshined the whole cast of the cult film, Sister Act II, offering one of her best interpretations.

In 1998, she released her first solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The album sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. In the 1999 Grammy Awards, out of 12 nominations, Lauryn won five awards in the R & B categories, including the album and the song of the year.

Later, Lauryn Hill takes a more spiritual path, focusing more on the message of her songs rather than their musical medium, the purpose being to bring a slice of reality more consistent with her fans, as illustrated in her 2001 album MTV Unplugged 2.0.

In 2015, to celebrate Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill unveils an elegant and faithful cover version of the former’s songs as part of a documentary devoted to the legendary singer. She also chooses to sing five other titles from the giant soul music singer in the album, Nina Revisited: A tribute to Nina Simone.

Today as a singer, composer and actress, she prefers to keep a low profile, rarely appearing on the stage. Expect a golden voice and an exceptional artist for a memorable concert in Rabat.
